Biography
Originally trained in shiatsu, Swedish massage and foot reflexology. He qualified as an acupuncturist in 1979 at CTA.
He gained his BAc in 1982 and MAc in 1987 with J. R. Worsley. He practised 5 Element acupuncture for nearly 20 years
and in the late 1990s studied Japanese styles, particularly Manaka and Matsumoto models. He has pursued his studies in Japanese styles
in the UK, Holland, Spain, the US and Japan. He has combined applied kinesiology with acupuncture since 1980 and is also a nutritionist and Feldenkrais practitioner.
In 2014 he gained an MA in Voice studies at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, his thesis being on the diaphragm.
He regularly lectures on applied kinesiology in Ireland and has taught a number of workshops at ICOM on Manaka acupuncture, Sotai and the importance of of the diaphragm
in relation to the channel system. He has written numerous articles for various acupuncture journals and is also a published poet.
Speaking Session
An introduction to Manaka Style Acupuncture (MSA)
This workshop will include a brief history of Dr.Yoshio Manaka (1911-1989), a Japanese medical doctor, acupuncturist, herbalist, researcher, sculptor and poet. A true polymath and polyglot.
It will include an introduction to his octahedral model based on the 8 extraordinary vessels and his use of palpation to arrive at a diagnosis.
It will explore his four stage protocol for treatment and cover the development and use of ion pumping cords and other tools.
There will be a demonstration of Manaka’s model.
The workshop will conclude with a Q and A.
